Car Deal Checker ("we", "us") is a browser extension that tells a used-car buyer whether a listing's price is a good deal, by showing real comparable listings, a labeled value estimate, and safety recalls, directly on the listing page. This policy explains what we collect and why. We keep it minimal by design.
What we collect
Account identity. Your name and email, provided when you sign in through our authentication provider (Clerk). If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email, and profile picture per your consent.
Authentication token. A session token that keeps you signed in so the extension can talk to our backend on your behalf.
Listing content you actively check. When you click to check a listing, the publicly visible fields of that listing (make, model, year, mileage, price, location, and the listing's id/URL) are sent to our backend to find comparable listings and compute the verdict.
Product analytics. Anonymous usage events (for example, "panel opened", "deal checked") to understand how the product is used.
What we do not collect
Your browsing history or other tabs, cookies from sites other than the listing you check, any page you did not act on, your card details (payments are handled entirely by Stripe), location beyond a listing's own stated location, health data, or personal communications.
How we use it
Only to provide the single purpose above: fetch comparable listings, compute a verdict and a labeled estimate, manage your check credits, and improve the product. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for creditworthiness or lending decisions.
Service providers
We share data with processors strictly to operate the product: Clerk (authentication), Stripe (payments — we never see or store your card details), a third-party comparable-listing data service, and PostHog (analytics). Each handles data under its own policy.
Retention & your rights
We retain your account and check history while your account is active. You may request access, correction, or deletion at any time by emailing support@hyperbach.com.
